It's not every day that we get a studio visit from a singer who's sung with or opened for the likes of Sting, Gregg Allman, Tina Turner, Michael Bolton and Faith Hill. But we had that pleasure this May when Diane Durrett brought her passionate voice and guitar to the set of Scene 13.

Durrett's web bio opens with a quote from Sting. A pretty stunning quote. "She's good. She's damn good". Durett's powerful vocals have grabbed the attention of other artists, reporters and listeners across the United States and beyond."Soul" and "soulful" are two words that regularly describe both her voice and her overall sound. But there's more than soul to the sound.

There's the folksy jangle of her guitar, which despite it's strength and tone never overpowers the vocals that have become her calling card. Though she's been compared to soul standouts Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight, there's no denying she's got as much grit and edge as Melissa Etheridge and the smoky weariness of Bonnie Raitt.

Durrett's songs have color and drive, managing to showcase her understanding and experience, but they never come off as tired or world weary. You understand that she's lived the songs she sings. You can't help but be impressed with the honesty of her songwriting, the strength of her vocals and the passion that pours from her guitar. Enjoy!
