A fire destroyed a building on Old Highway 18 in Jones County, according to Fire Chief Allan Green.

Green says a call came in to Jones County 911 at around 9 a.m. Tuesday, reporting smoke in the area. He says 15 firefighters battled the blaze at Apple Valley Feed Company, a company that manufactures animal feed.

The building on fire was made of metal and wood and housed products used to make feed, said the chief.

He said the owner, Paul Moncrief, was out of town at the time the fire started, but came back home when he heard about the fire.

Green says firefighters got the fire out around noon. He says they're still investigating the cause.
