
Macon's Cherry Blossom Festival got a big financial boost Thursday.
Festival organizers say they got a $50,000 grant from the foundation run by the family of former festival chair William Fickling III.
At a news conference, festival organizers said nearly 99 percent of this year's festival events were sold out. The event had struggled financially in recent years.
They also announced that festival board member ..former Macon Mayor Lee Robinson, will be chairman of next year's festival.
The group said it has hired a consulting firm to help find a new full-time president and CEO.Former Bibb County chief assessor Jim Davis recently stepped down as interim director.
