Houston County may be more prepared than ever before for large scale disasters.
Hospital volunteers from Houston Healthcare in Warner Robins and Perry formed their first all hazards team.
Bobby Carroll leads the team, and says the hospital saw a need for it after the disaster in Americus, Georgia caused by hurricane Katrina. The storms hit the hospital there.
Carroll says if that happened in Houston County, they would be more prepared because their equipment and volunteers are mobile. They could treat patients anywhere, providing most of the medicines, equipment and services offered at the actual hospital.
Carroll said, "We do not prepare for one specific disaster. When we make a preparedness goal, it's for everything. We can handle everything. Either it be mass supplies for bleeding control or splinting. We can apply these resources to anything."
Carroll says right now, volunteers from Houston Healthcare, who are also employees, make up the all hazards team.
He says once they work out any problems, they plan to invite members of the community to train to become part of the team.
