
Travis Jones grew up in Wilkinson County and now coaches the defensive line with the New Orleans Saints. Every summer he hunkers down to spend time with kids at a fundamentals camp.
This is the fourth year for the event.
Jones says they saw about 160 show up every morning for the two-day event.
Coaches can apply to the NFL for a four-thousand dollar grant to cover food, medical teams on standby, t-shirts and towels.
The kids walk away with some invaluable techniques.
"I learned how to do coverage, I learned how to scoop the ball and that's pretty much it," Joshua Bailey recalled.
Tyler Williams is from Wilkinson County.
"The key on fourth down is to get the ball from the quarterback nd strip it or just hit him really hard," he said.
Coach Jones says they packed a lot in everyday.
"We started individual drills and all the players started off with skills and drills with each coach and they've taken to it... we had some one on one competition with pass rush with the offensive line and lineman and the defensive backs, Jones explained.
Jones as you would expect thinks the Saints will do pretty well this year. And New Orleans does see a Georgia boy early on when the Saints take on the Lions as their season opener.
That's where former Bulldog quarterback Mathew Stafford wound up as the number one pick in the draft.
