A Monroe County man has been accused of stealing more than a dozen four-wheelers throughout Georgia and in Alabama.

Lewis Merrian was arrested in Monroe County for thefts of 4-wheelers in Calhoun County, according to the Twiggs County Sheriff's Office.

Twiggs County Sheriff Darren Mitchum says the investigation into Merrian started when a sheriff with the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office saw a stolen 4-wheeler for sale on the website Craigslist.

Sheriff Mitchum says they recovered 13 four-wheelers, as well as a golf cart, four riding lawn mowers, yard tools, and a utility trailer. He says the four-wheelers were recovered in Bibb, Jones, Calhoun, Twiggs, and in Randolph County, Alabama.

Mitchum says Merrian told the victims who purchased the items that he had bought them at a Florida police auction.

The Twiggs County Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information about these thefts or anyone who has purchased items from Lewis Merrian to contact them at 478-945-3357.
