I-16 Grass Fire Now Out

A grass fire that sent smoke billowing across I-16 in Twiggs County is now out.

The Twiggs County sheriff's department says the fire happened in the median near exit 27, the Danville exit.

Viewer Amy Solen said she was driving on I-16 around 2:45 p.m. when she encountered the smoke.

She said it was so thick, she could barely see in front of her, and traffic was slowing down in both directions.

Around 3:30 p.m., the Twiggs Fire Department said the fire was out and their crews had cleared the scene.
