A Dodge County inmate is back in jail after escaping briefly Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff Jeff Hinson said two detention officers responded to a fight in one of the cells at the county jail just after 5 p.m. He said when they entered the cell, an inmate hit one of them with a broomstick.
While the first two officers subdued the first inmate, a second inmate, 42-year-old Talmage Eugene Bray, ran past them.
Bray met a third officer at the booking room door.
Hinson said Bray punched that officer and knocked him down as he escaped.
Officers recaptured Bray just after 6 p.m. Hinson says they found him in a creek bed two blocks from the jail.
Hinson said the incident is still under investigation, and charges are pending against both inmates.
EMS workers treated two detention officers for injuries.
Dodge County Sheriff's deputies were assisted in their search by the Dodge C.I. Canine Unit and the Eastman and Chauncey Police Departments.
Hinson said the present Dodge County Jail is almost 40 years old and does not meet standards such as having a secure outer fence surrounding the jail. Dodge County has broken ground on a modern jail facility and hopes the new jail will be completed within a year.
