From New York's high-life to Chicago's low-life and back to Broadway...three Central Georgia theatres bring three amazing shows to life on this huge opening weekend! But first, we're just over two weeks away from the 2009 Bragg Jam and the excitement for Central Georgia's premier music festival is permeating the sultry, summer air. As Floco Torres might say, it's "Hot Like the Sun!" Torres is one of almost 40 musicians and bands that will perform on July 25. Venues all across Macon, from the Hummingbird to the Capitol Theatre to Rivalry's will host various performers throughout the Saturday evening festivities. Check out the current line-up here: http://www.braggjam.org/includes/pages/forms/bj1001-flyer.pdf . Mark your calendars for JULY 25 and stay tuned to Scene 13 as we preview more festival excitment in our Countdown to Bragg Jam. For complete details on the festival, visit www.braggjam.org . Now, as for this weekend, it's ALL about the theatre! The actors of Warner Robins Little Theatre unveil Neil Simon's dark comedy - "Rumors" - this Friday. Of the play, director Alexander Raines says, "If you come, you'll laugh!" When New York's finest gather for a 10th wedding anniversary, they find their host shot and their hostess missing. What would a socialite do? To find out how the upper-echelon handle it and how very, very badly they can mess things up, head on out to WRLT this weekend! Friday and Saturday shows are at 8:00 p.m. Visit www.wrlt.org for details and call (478) 929-4579 for tickets and reservations. From the high-life of New York to...well, the not so high-life in Chicago. Uber-talented actors and actresses from across Central Georgia light up the stage in Macon Little Theatre's rendition of "Chicago." Sylvia Haynie and Laura Voss direct the incredible performance. "Chicago is about the notorious ladies of crime in the 1920's," Haynie explains, "there's Velma, who is the sort of seasoned criminal and then there's Roxy who is new at this, but emulates Velma." The story, the music and the dancing all combine for one exceptional evening at the theatre. The curtain opens Friday at 8:00 p.m. Saturday's show is also at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday's matinee begins at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are going fast! Call (478) 471-PLAY to make your reservations. Now, how about a little Broadway? "The Producers" hits town this weekend! Theatre Macon's Bob Meloche and J. P. Haynie explain their title characters, Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom. "Max is a failed Broadway producer," laments Meloche. Haynie continues, "Leo is an accountant who...helps Max with his books. And comes up with scheme...for how producers can make a whole lot of money with a terrible show." When the duo bring Hitler in Springtime to the Broadway stage, no one is prepared for what comes next. You don't want to miss it, folks. Theatre Macon puts on a truly phenomenal show! Haynie adds, "(It's) a little bawdy, a little raunchy, but exciting and fun!" The Producers opens - you guessed it - also on Friday night and runs through July 25. This Friday and Saturday, the action starts at 8:00 p.m. Sunday's matinee is at 2:30 p.m. Call (478) 746-9485 for reservations. And don't forget about the Stageworks Kidz Camp performance of Motown's 50th Anniversary, happening Friday and Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Douglass Theatre. Some of Central Georgia's most talented kids sing and dance their way through some of the greatest songs ever performed. Call (478) 742-2000 or drop by the Douglass Theatre box office to purchase tickets. Three huge theatre openings and a Motown revue...all happening this weekend. You don't want to miss a single one! So, get out and support your local theatre and just have a great time! Ben previews all these events now in the video to the right. Check it out!
