Several hundred people lined up for jobs at a Macon hotel Thursday morning.
The line of job seekers stretched outside the Marriott City Center Hotel and around the building.
"There were people lined up all the way outside, from 6 in the morning," said Alonzio Burney, who was hoping to land a job working in the kitchen.
Erica Gurr was one of the applicants who showed up early and said she was looking for any job they would offer her.
"Well, the early bird catches the worm, so I had to be on time because I really need this job," Gurr said.
The Macon hotel, looking to fill about 60 positions before its grand opening this fall, is hosting a job fair looking for new hires.
The hotel's general manager David Rosenberg said they want to fill a variety of positions, from customer service to maintenance to food service to management.
Rosenberg said he expects more than a thousand people to show for Thursday's job fair session, and two- or three-thousand more over the course of the weekend.
"The best part of this weekend is that we're adding jobs to a local economy and getting ready to open this beautiful new hotel at the beginning of September," Rosenberg said. "I think it's fantastic not only for Macon but for the whole region."
With the hotel opening up in a couple months, Rosenberg said they will start notifying applicants if they are hired as soon as next week.
However, while some feel their interviews went well, they said they will not put all their hopes in this one job fair.
"As soon as I leave here I'm still looking," Burney said. "I'm always looking. I wake up every morning and look for a job. Everyday."
Thursday's sessions are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. You can also drop by Friday or Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The sessions are at the hotel.
Two job fairs are scheduled: the other is a veterans fair at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins.
The Georgia Department of of Labor, the Middle Georgia Employer Committee and the Houston County Career Center have collaborated on Thursday's fair in Warner Robins.
It happens from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum's Century of Flight Hangar.
More than 80 employers are expected.
The fair is open to the public and the state agency advises job seekers to "dress for success" and bring a copy of their resume.
