An 85-year-old man died in a bizarre accidental shooting on a Macon street this morning.
It happened around 9:35 a.m. on Woodfield Drive, off Mercer University Drive.
Bibb County coroner Leon Jones said E.J. Fried was towing a Jeep that had a shotgun mounted on the dashboard.
When Fried got out of his station wagon to remove the shotgun, Jones said, it discharged. He said Fried didn't know the gun was loaded.
He said Fried died of a shotgun wound to the chest.
Bibb County deputy Sean Defoe said the accident was not connected to the nearby Eagle Gun Range, which was closed.
