If you've ever wanted to do something to support our war veterans and you just didn't know how to go about it - this weekend, you've got a prime opportunity to make a difference. And get this, you'll make that difference just by rocking out at this incredible benefit concert at Ellis Field in Culloden! Sounds tough, huh? Columns Magazine of Middle Georgia is sponsoring a day of music magic to support the Hope 4 Heroes - an organization that advocates for and provides support for our warriors returning from the fields of battle. This weekend's concert features 10 local bands, including Black Top Rodeo. "They're doing their job to protect us - the community as a whole," says drummer Jason Lott, "this is the least we can do to help them out when they come back." Organization co-founder Penny Wilson explains why it's so important to help our veterans, "How many people can I walk up to in my life and say, "I was willing to die for you." And that's what veterans do. Let's reach out to them for a change instead of them always being the ones to reach out...to us." It's gonna be a great Saturday in Ellis Field, folks! Gates open at 1:00 p.m. and the music kicks off at 2:00 p.m.. DON'T BRING COOLERS! Food and drinks will be on sale and those proceeds also go towards Hope 4 Heroes. Admission is only $5.00! Check out www.hope4heroesusa.com for all your concert details. Now let's back it up to Friday night, where another local band is cranking it up at 567 Cafe in downtown Macon. Gertrude's Mojo is putting on a straight-up rock'n'roll show starting at 8:00 p.m. Guitarist Kenny Williams says, "We...call it revved-up roots music - just come on out and enjoy it!" Don your togas and fire up your chariots, 'cause just a few blocks down, there's a Party at the Parthenon! Terrell Sandefur presents another of his fabulous themed parties Friday starting at 9:00 p.m. And this one? It's for all the gods and goddesses. Cover is $10 at the door and there's a cash bar. Visit www.thesochigallery.com for more details. At the Rose Theatre in Forsyth, BOOYA (Backlot's Own Original Youth Actors) is bringing one of America's most beloved characters to life in "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." Jordan Harris plays the signature character, "This show...is about an average day in the life of Charlie Brown. It's just a family-friendly show and it's great, it's entertaining, it's light, it's fun. You can just be a kid and look at the world as you did back then." This weekend, Friday and Saturday shows are at 8:00 p.m. and they run through August 9. Check out http://thebacklotplayers.tripod.com/ for the full schedule. Rounding out this incredible weekend, it's "A Stella Evening of Drama and Jazz" featuring the original play "The Family Reunion" and jazz by the Ken Trimmins Quartet.
