Gertrude's Mojo first hit the Central Georgia music scene back in the 90's. Now, around 10 years later, the band only has one original member, Kenny Ray Williams. But with notable talents Roger Hill, Lee Anderson and Che Goguen rounding out the band - Gertrude has found her mojo!
According to the band's bio, "Gertrude's Mojo wanted to play straight ahead rock & roll with root influences (blues, country, rockabilly, bluegrass, etc.) and mix that with punk/alternative."
They'll play 567 Cafe in downtown Macon at 8:00 p.m. this Friday, so they stopped by the Scene 13 studio for a little concert preview. There are so many different things to like about this band. Williams and Hill - whose voices are distinctly different -switch off on lead vocals from song to song. When you're the audience, it's awesome to get that level of sound diversity during a show. Anderson's guitar rifts and Gouguen's flawless beats (except for that cough during the studio shoot) complete the band's accessible and true rock 'n' roll feel.
And as it is with really good music, staff members were still singing their songs after they left.
If you want a real music experience with Gertrude's Mojo, check them out at 567 Cafe. It is a perfect venue for really listening and interacting with the band. You don't want to miss this show that, again, is Friday at 8:00 p.m.!
Check out Gertrude's Mojo and their performance of "I Want You Gone" with Kenny Ray Williams on lead vocals in the featured video. Next week, we'll switch gears and give you Roger Hill's lead on "What Might've Been."
