Check out the weekend Central Georgia...it's a wild one!
Buffalo Bill and his rootin' tootin' gang of rough riders have taken over Russell Auditorium in Milledgeville...seems as though the Wild West has come to the theatre!
"Annie Get Your Gun is the fictional story of the life of Annie Oakley," explains director Leanne Branch, "about her not only becoming a super sharp shooter, but also in her meeting and romancing with Frank Butler."
Col. Buffalo Bill Cody, played by actor David Wells, sums up the shows main characters quite nicely, "Annie Oakley is a country bumpkin that comes in and challenges Frank Butler as the greatest sharp shooter in the world."
Well, when Mister Champion Sharpshooter gets shown up by Miss Bumpkin, drama (and lots of comedy) ensue. And since Annie Get Your Gun is one stupendous musical, the actors sing all about it!
From Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better to There's No Business Like Show Business, the audience will be singing right along. And this is a family-friendly show, so bring the kids out, too!
Come sit a spell this Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Again, the fun's happening at Russell Auditorium on the GC&SU campus in Milledgeville. For tickets call (478) 696-3310 or get them at the door.
In downtown Macon, an amazing music event is happening this Saturday!
"We're having our first ever Birthday Bash benefiting the American Cancer Society," explains Lindsi Pearson. "Come celebrate your twenty-first birthday all over again!"
Head out to the Hummingbird on Cherry Street, to join Central Georgia in celebrating life with music at the Birthday Band Bash! Four incredible local bands - City Council, the Red Swill, Roly-bots and Hank Vegas will all be in the house. "All of whom have donated their time coming out just to help support this cause and help fight back against cancer," says Pearson.
This event is for EVERYBODY...it's all about celebrating the magic of one more birthday! "Come celebrate that you're having another birthday, cause we're helping to make that possible for cancer survivors!"
Admission to this incredible event is only $10.00. There will also be a raffle with some awesome prizes. Before you head to the Hummingbird - where the show starts at 9:00 p.m. - visit Market City Cafe or Acapulco for dinner. A portion of their proceeds for the evening will go to the American Cancer Society. And check out Lemongrass, the new Thai Bistro, where they are donating the proceeds from two drinks.
It's just too marvelous for words! And apparently, so is the Johnny Mercer exhibit at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.
Of the exhibit, Executive Director Lisa Love says, "This again is just another great exhibit about a Georgian who's had a significant impact on American music. Johnny Mercer is so well-known for his songs and he's such an important part of the Great American songbook. You look at tunes like Jeepers Creepers...That Old Black Magic and Moon River."
Come discover the man behind the music. Learn all about the life and loves of Mercer at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame today! Visit www.georgiamusic.org for more information.
And last, but certainly not least, the Stay 'n' Play Concert Series brings Drivin' 'n' Cryin' to the Cox Capitol Theatre this Saturday evening. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and Hank Vegas will open the show at 8:00 p.m. (yes, Hank Vegas will also be at the Birthday Band Bash later). To purchase tickets, call (478) 257-6391 or visit www.coxcapitoltheatre.com .
