The Bibb County School Board has put a middle school principal on administrative leave after he was accused assaulting a student.
School board spokesman Chris Floore says Appling Middle School Principal, Robert Stevenson, has been placed on administrative leave as of Friday evening.
In a Macon Police incident report, a 12-year-old female student says on Thursday, August 20, she got into an argument with another student in science class. The girl told an officer that Stevenson came into the classroom, pointed his finger at them and told them to shut up. She says he then put his hands around the girls' necks. The student says she yanked Stevenson's hands away. He then forced her to put her left arm around her neck while his hands were holding her arm and neck, according to the police report. The girl told the officer a teacher was asking her to calm down as Stevenson held her in the position. The police report says the student was crying and asking people to call her mother. A Board of Education officer was called to the classroom. The girl says when she stopped crying, Stevenson put handcuffs on her and she was taken home, according the police report.
The Bibb County Board of Education is investigating the incident.
