Bibb County schools expelled a 13-year-old who allegedly brought a gun to the Bloomfield Middle School last week.

That's according to school spokesman Chris Floore.

The school went on lockdown for about two hours last Tuesday when the 38-caliber handgun accidentally fired inside a classroom.

No one was injured.

The seventh-grader was on in-school suspension that day.

He also faces criminal charges in the case.

Floore says the boy's family has the right to appeal the expulsion.
