The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame will use uniforms, gloves, and pictures to bring the history of women in baseball to life in a new exhibit. It's called "Line Drives and Lipstick: The Untold Story of Women's Baseball."
It's organized and toured by Mid-American Arts Alliance.
Raymond Dean brought a friend to check out the displays at the museum, but he was a bit too early to catch the display on women in the sport he loves.
"Growin' up, that was my sport. It's just fun, it's a good team sport," said Dean. The former Navy man says he has taken a swing at America's favorite pastime and even played in college at Valdosta State, but he admits he doesn't know much about women in baseball.
Benjamin Baughnan, a senior curator at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, says many people know a little history about women in baseball from movies, but not much about it now.
"Most people aren't familiar that women's baseball is even played today," said Baughnan.
Ben Sapp the hall's director of education says the museum's financial troubles haven't stopped it from bringing in new things for people to see.
"We're continuing to try and provide the kind of programming that Middle Georgia and the state of Georgia deserve from their Sports Hall of Fame," he said.
Sapp says the displays that line the exhibit's walls highlight the advancement of women using baseball to show changes in society.
"Through the change of uniforms, through the way they're advertised, through the depictions in some of the magazine covers and playbills," said Sapp.
It is something Dean says will help educate people as they walk the Hall of Fame.
"You know, you're walking around, you'd see it. You'd definitely be educated on it one way or the other," said Dean, even if it's only for a limited time.
The exhibit has about 60 items on display and will run until October 20.
