Eastman and Warner Robins both saw double-digit crime increases during 2008, according to FBI crime statistics.

The FBI today released its Uniform Crime reports for 2008, based on crimes reported by the local departments to the federal agency.

They showed crime down in most Georgia cities, including Macon, East Dublin, Dublin, Montezuma, Milledgeville, Fort Valley, Sandersville, McRae, Gray and Gordon.

But crime rose nearly 22 percent in Eastman and nearly 14 percent in Warner Robins.

Eastman reported 87 violent crimes and 277 property crimes in 2007 -- 364 in all. Last year, they reported 97 violent crimes and 347 property times, a total of 444.

In Warner Robins, police reported 326 violent crimes and 3,309 property crimes in 2007, a total of 3,635. Last year, they said there were 333 violent crimes and 3,805 property crimes, 4,138 combined.

Macon's crime totals jibe with those already reported by the department, showing a 1 percent drop between 2007 and 2008.

Numbers from other towns:

  • Byron, up 6.17%
  • Cochran, up 2.58%
  • East Dublin, down -3.42%
  • Dublin, down 4.20%
  • Montezuma, down 5.43%
  • Milledgeville, down 6.88%
  • Fort Valley, down 14.76%
  • Sandersville, down 15.09%
  • McRae, down 19.66%
  • Gray, down 32.22%
  • Gordon, down 34.15%

The Wilkinson County town of Irwinton, population 577, reported a 100 percent drop. The FBI says they reported eight crimes in 2007, all property crimes, and none last year.

Several cities, like Eatonton, Hawkinsville and Forsyth, did not report numbers to the FBI for one year or another.
