It's a weekend of debuts, finales and long-awaited comebacks in Central Georgia! First up, the Cox Capitol Theatre presents the exciting debut of Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee Karen Black's new play - Missouri Waltz. "It's a play about family," explains Black. "It's a play about a house that been in the family for generations." Black (playwright) and local theatre maven Sylvia Haynie (director) star in the heartfelt comedy as recently deceased sisters Chrissie and Bea who - as ghosts - must help their niece save the home. The three remaining roles were filled by wonderfully talented local actors. Tom Morris stars as Bea's still-very-much-alive husband Anton. And Denver Pickard portrays "Jerry-on-the-Spot." The sisters' niece is masterfully portrayed by Mercer student Abbie Howd. In addition to being a remarkable play by a highly accomplished actress starring massively talented people, this is a rare opportunity to catch a live-action theatre production at the Capitol Theatre. You don't want to miss Missouri Waltz! The play opens Friday at 7:30 p.m. and runs through next Saturday, Sept. 26. Visit www.coxcapitoltheatre.com or call (478) 257-6391 to purchase tickets and for information on the dinner theatre. In other theatre news, this is the last weekend to catch the Perry Players in Alone Together, a comedy that explores the trials of middle-aged parents who are ready to enjoy the empty-nest but can't get rid of their kids! Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday's matinee is at 2:30 p.m. Visit www.perryplayers.org to make reservations. On the festival scene, one of the most highly anticipated annual festivals in all of Central Georgia is back! The Ocmulgee National Monument welcomes Native Americans from all over the country to the Ocmulgee Indian Celebration. This weekend, see and experience life as it was in 19th century Central Georgia. "We have dancers, we have storytellers," states ONM's Jim David. "We have artisans, craftspeople, people who demonstrate historic lifeways." Discover the magic of Native American culture this Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is $5.00 for anyone over 12 years of age. For 6 - 12 years of age admission is $2.00 and kids 6 and under get in free. Also on the comeback scene, City Market on the Green makes a return! This Saturday, local growers, makers and all-around crafty folks sell their homemade wares on Third and Poplar Streets in downtown Macon. The market lasts from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Now, how about a hearty "yo-ho-ho" or "shiver me timbers!" Just in case you didn't know, this Saturday is international "Talk Like a Pirate Day." On Sunday, by lucky coincidence, you and your family can catch Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl absolutely free on the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail. This is the perfect excuse to dress up like a pirate, talk like a pirate and hang out with other pirates! Bring your family, pets and all yer mateys out to the Spring Street area of the trail to see the movie at 8:00 p.m. That's it for this week!
