HEMPSTEAD. N.Y. (AP) -- A group of students, faculty and staff at Hofstra University is being asked to review safety and security following a false rape report at the Long Island campus.
Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz says he's appointing a task force to review all aspects of campus security. The Hempstead school also is asking an outside security consultant to conduct a separate review.
The campus was rocked by allegations early in the week that a Hofstra freshman had been gang-raped by five men in a dormitory bathroom.
The woman recanted her story Wednesday night and four men who had been arrested were immediately released from jail. She has since been suspended and could face criminal charges.
Rabinowitz says safety and security will always be a top priority.
