Some bookworms got a free treat Saturday for reading an inspirational story.

This summer, a group of teens pledged to read the book The Soloist through a program called Macon Can Read, sponsored by the Macon Mall. The program encouraged the kids to grab the book with the promise they could see the movie for free.

Saturday, the readers showed up at the AmStar movie theater on Zebulon Road to cash in on their prize. The movie, staring Jamie Foxx, came out earlier this summer. Saturday's showing was a special screening just for the teen readers.

"I really love to read. I'm a big reader and I thought it was a great experience and a great opportunity," said Katherine, one of the teen participants.

"We want them to enjoy reading and to expand themselves beyond the typical novel and look at a novel that is actually about real life and that's what this book is about," said Lili Donaldson from the Macon Mall.

The Macon Mall sponsored the event. After the movie, the group discussed the book and film and they also had a drawing for a Kindle, a hand-held digital reader.
