One man died and his girlfriend is still in the hospital following a home invasion in Sparta late Wednesday night, said the Hancock County Sheriff's Office.
It happened at 4244 Spring Field Road around 9:30 p.m.
Sheriff Tomlyn Terrell Primus says 35-year old Willie Henry Alexander suffered a fatal wound in his rib cage and later died at the hospital.
As of Friday, Primus says his live-in girlfriend, Demetric Lawerance, was still in the hospital. He says she was shot in her left arm.
Investigator Ricky Brown says Alexander's kids, age 10 and 13, were both in the home during the invasion.
They were in a different room and were not injured, said Brown.
Brown says they have not made any arrests but are following up on leads.
Brown says it's the first murder in Hancock County this year.
