A new set of bright lights are illuminating downtown Macon.
Tuesday night a big crowd helped the Grand Opera House celebrate its 125th anniversary with the unveiling of a new marquee.
With a quick yank of the curtain the marquee made its debut.
Supporters packed downtown Macon to watch the big reveal.
The executive director for the performing arts center, Karen Jordan-Lambert, says getting the marquee up was a labor of love.
She says many people from around Macon help raise money to buy the marquee and get it up and running.
"This marquee is very exciting. It's not just exciting for the Grand Opera House or for Mercer, but it's exciting for the whole community. It really does symbolize that the arts and entertainment mean a great deal to the city, said Jordan-Lambert.
She says the grand total for the marquee was $431,000.
