Sure, we're deep into football season, but basketballs will start bouncing in gyms soon.

Mercer basketball coach Bob Hoffman has had his guys working on conditioning and hitting the weights this summer.

Next week, they'll hit the court to practice for the 2010 season.

Hoffman says the Bears have a lot more depth this year with five seniors running the court.

That means Hoffman will have more options when it comes to calling plays.

"We want to run faster, be quicker, put more points on the board.. That's how we want to play. Last year, we kind of had to work through a lot of things because we weren't as deep as we are this year, so we're hoping to play more full court, push the ball up, and get some easy opportunities by some dunks. That would be nice," Hoffman said.

The teams kicking off things with a big roar as they invite in Dick Vitale to a kickoff banquet Monday, October 12th.

Mercer says the event is already sold out.

The Bears begin practice Friday, October 16th.
