The gates opened Thursday for the 20th Georgia National Fair in Perry.

Thursday marked "Sneak Peek" day, when the fair opens for food, music, rides and competitions.

The sights and sounds of the fair greeted people as they made their way inside.

Stephen Borders never misses the fair, and this year he brought his younger cousin to share in the tradition.

He says it is all about fun rides and having a good time.

From the rides to the games everyone has their favorite fair feature, but for many, the food tops the list.

Vendor Jonathan Russell sells all sorts of toys at the event which he looks forward to every year.

He says, "all the people and all the good times you can have out here, it's just a friendly atmosphere."

Joe Brookshire from Cordele never skips the fair with his family.

He says, "it is in Middle Georgia, that is one good thing. A lot of people in our area don't have the opportunity to go to Six Flags or to the theme park in Valdosta, so it is a great time for people to come out and enjoy their family and enjoy the family entertainment."

And while he says he came for his granddaughter, like many others, he enjoys the fun himself as well.

A free concert featured Jay & The Techniques and The Crystals.

For the rest of the fair, through Oct. 18, hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • Gate Admission (free parking, all gates have handicap parking)
