The Crawford County sheriff says no one will be charged in Saturday morning's hunting accident that injured a Byron man.

According to a news release, 46-year-old Gregory Wade, also of Byron, accidentally shot Kevin Knighton while removing his 270-caliber rifle from his pickup truck.

Knighton, who is 30, was standing outside the pickup truck when the bullet came through the passenger side door and struck him in the lower abdomen, according to the news release from Sheriff Lewis Walker.

It happened around 7:15 a.m. off Highway 128, west of Roberta.

Wade drove Knighton to the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, and he was later treated at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Walker says the case has been ruled as an accidental shooting and no charges are pending.
