The GBI has charged five Eatonton residents with trying to pass more than $24,000 in counterfeit checks.

According to a news release, the five were arrested Thursday.

Tom Davis, special agent in charge of the GBI's Milledgeville office, says someone was mailing dozens of counterfeit checks, drawn against Central Georgia businesses, from Orlando, Fla. to the Western Motel in Eatonton, where one of the suspects was staying.

He said the suspects cashed the checks, kept a cut, but wired most of the proceeds back to Florida.

The arrests came after a three-month investigation.

The news release says Eatonton police and the GBI arrested three men, 30-year-old Caesar Futch, 27-year-old Travis Davis; and 23-year-old Tommy Parks; and two women, 29-year-old Leslie Parks and 29-year-old Lashan Parks. They all live in Eatonton.

Davis said more arrests are expected.
