A Valdosta woman arrested in Macon after a short chase Thursday night was sent to a hospital, not a jail.
A Byron police officer said the driver, 43-year-old Sophia Brantley, was "incoherent," appeared to be mentally ill and may have stopped taking medications.
Capt. Chris Hodges said the chase started around 6:50 p.m. Thursday near mile marker 147 on Interstate 75 in Byron. He said Brantley would not stop when an officer tried to pull her over.
He said she drove into Bibb County at speeds of 60 to 70 mph.
They tried to use spiked strips to stop her near the Pio Nono Avenue-Eisenhower Parkway intersection, but she avoided them.
They used a second set near the Interstate 75-Interstate 16 interchange. Officers stopped Brantley when her passenger-side tires were damaged.
No one was injured.
After being booked, Hodges said, Brantley was transferred to a Valdosta-area hospital.
He was not sure if she'll face charges.
