The search for an escaped jail inmate led Crawford County deputies to four methamphetamine suspects, the sheriff says.
Crawford investigators and other law-enforcement agencies raided a home on the 3500 block of Carl Sutton Road Wednesday, according to a news release from Sheriff Lewis S. Walker.
Based on a Crimestoppers tip, they were looking for David Morris, who escaped from the county jail last week.
Instead, Walker says, they found three "eight balls" of meth in plain view inside the house. He estimates their street value at $3,000.
According to his news release, four people were arrested and charged with possession of meth with the intent to distribute:
- Christy Cherie Jones, 27, of Lizella;
- Catherine Jill Hammock, 32, of Lizella;
- Ronnie Walter Rice, 29, of Macon;
- and Jesse Dwayne Ballard, 32, of Lizella.
Ballard was also served with a parole violation warrant, Walker says.
Later Wednesday, investigators found Morris at a Lizella home. He was charged with felony escape and probation violation, Walker says.
His girlfriend, 34-year-old Jennifer Lorraine Davis of Lizella was charged with obstruction of officer and hindering apprehension/punishment of criminal, according to the news release.
