A surplus of rain in the past few weeks put a major damper on development of the Little League Southeastern Regional headquarters in Warner Robins.
Site manager Jay Flesher says at least 16 inches during the course of a month put construction about a month behind.
He said damage cost them an estimated $50,000 to $80,000, most of it in in-kind work from the City of Warner Robins.
Flesher said the water mostly caused damage to the grounds and infrastructure, such as water and sewer piping.
He says all the rain came at the worst time possible in the construction process.
Flesher said, "It was quite devastating because most of the silt and sediment in place, came back down the slopes again. Basically it set us back about four weeks."
Flesher says they still plan to finish the Little League site by the April 15th deadline. The ground work was schedules for completion before the stadium and other buildings. The rain delay will move the dates closer together, but will not delay the completion date.
The first tournament will be the Southeastern Regional Little League softball tournament at the end of July. The Southeastern Regional Little League Baseball tournament will begin next August.
The Little League Southeastern Regional Headquarters site cost about $5.4 million, according to Jay Flesher. It is being paid for by contributions from Houston County, the City of Warner Robins, the State of Georgia and Little League.
