A Macon man is charged with strangling his girlfriend Friday morning, the city's second alleged domestic killing in a week.

Police Sgt. Zac Self says 45-year-old Alphonzo McNear is charged with murder. He was arrested Friday morning and is being held at the Bibb County jail.

Bibb County coroner Leon Jones said 53-year-old Sandra Stell died from asphyxiation from strangulation, and that her death was ruled a homicide.

Stell was found dead around 4 a.m. Friday, when police were called to a home at 896 Newberg Ave. That's in south Macon, off Houston Avenue.

Self said both McNear and Stell live at that address.

Earlier this week, Bernard Rhodes was charged with shooting his wife Cynthia in the head on Oct. 23. She died two days later.
