LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say the pilot of a small plane that crashed into a suburban Atlanta house was headed to Tennessee to see his six daughters.

At a news conference Saturday Butch Wilson of the National Transportation Safety Board declined to identify the pilot, who died in the Friday afternoon crash, or a woman who died in the house.

The woman's husband was also inside the Lawrenceville house at the time of the crash but managed to escape.

Wilson says crews were on their way to sort through the wreckage. He says the plane went down around 1:30 p.m. Friday, shortly after leaving Gwinnett County Airport. The pilot sent no distress signals.

Wilson says the pilot's last FAA flight physical was in 2006 and he had logged 1,200 flight hours by then.
