The Bibb County School District and Central High School dedicated the school's new facilities Sunday afternoon.
The county completely rebuilt Central High. The new building features high-efficiency lighting and a low maintenance flooring system. The school was paid for by the school district's 2005 Capital Improvement Program, through a penny E-LOST, or Education Local Option Sales Tax.
That program invested $165 million in upgrades, additions, improvements and new schools in Bibb County.
Principal Jeff Homan said, "This new facility has allowed our students to focus on teaching and learning. They have nice wide hallways, lots of lights. We saw in the ceremony this afternoon that they're excited about having clean drinking water. The new facility is state of the art in many many ways and our students benefit from that in every way."
This Tuesday, people in Bibb can vote for a continuation of the E-LOST.
It would fund the construction of five new elementary schools, major renovation projects at nine schools, new construction and extensive improvements to athletic facilities, and the purchase of new buses.
