The Song and Soul of the South is on fire this weekend with music, music and more music! Also on tap - shop til you drop at Christmas "heaven" and celebrate Pumpkin Destruction Day the Rock Ranch Way. It's all happening right here in your backyard...
Now when a city is dubbed the Song & Soul of the South - as Macon is - there's got to be some serious music action going on.
Take this weekend for example. Friday night, check out Free Music Friday at Edgar's Bistro. Macon songstress Oh Dorian will grace the awesome eatery with her soulful sounds starting at 7:30 p.m. It "sounds" like a great idea for date night! Call (478) 471-4864 for more details.
Back in downtown Macon, Ronnie Laws invites you out for an Intimate Evening of melodious music at the Douglass Theatre. This nationally-renown jazz musician takes the stage at 8:00 p.m. For tickets, call the Douglass at (478) 742-2000.
Down the way at the Cox Capitol Theatre, get ready for a little rock with a side dish of funk. Jes Grew performs the last show on the Fall From the Rockies Tour right here in Central Georgia. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the concert starts at 8:00 p.m.
The very next night - that would be Saturday - a huge, awesome rockin' concert is happening again at the Capitol Theatre. The Tommy Talton Band along with special guests Diane Durrett, Jimmy Hall and Randall Bramblett will hit the stage for the Big House Foundation's Stay and Play concert.
For tickets to both of this weekend's concerts at the Cox Capitol Theatre, call (478) 257-6391 or visit www.coxcapitoltheatre.com .
Another extraordinary concert is also happening Saturday evening. The Mercer Macon Symphony Youth Orchestra is performing at the Neva Fickling Recital Hall at Mercer University.
The group will perform - for the first time in Georgia - Daniel Chan's Overture for a Comic Book Hero.
This spectacular show will take place Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Alright, how about a little Christmas shopping with thousands of your closest friends? Christmas Made in the South is back in Macon for it's 17th year. Check out the wares of over 300 craftsmen, artists, and vendors of all varieties at the Macon Centreplex.
The Christmas extravaganza happens Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
We're wrapping things up with a big family event. Saturday is Pumpkin Destruction Day at the Rock Ranch! There'll be pumpkins shooting out of cannons, pumpkin-bombing airplanes (don't forget your umbrellas) and two massive monster trucks that will smash pumpkins like there's no tomorrow. For a complete list of Rock Ranch events visit www.therockranch.com and check out "Pumpkin Destruction Day."
