A Bonaire woman is joining the growing field of challengers against Congressman Jim Marshall in 2010.
Valerie Meyers is a technical writer and business analyst for a Houston County company that services Robins Air Force Base and other bases, according to her news release.
She says she was Houston County and Eighth District coordinator for Ron Paul's 2008 presidential campaign and a fan of his principles of limited government.
A first-time candidate for public office, Meyers criticizes Marshall and his votes on economic issues.
In the news release, she wrote, "Jim Marshall has voted to hand over $200 million to the failed mortgage lenders Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Jim Marshall voted $700 billion of taxpayer money for failed Wall Street banks. Jim Marshall voted in favor of the Obama administration's economic stimulus package -- that cost taxpayers $600 billion.
"Quite simply, we cannot afford Jim Marshall as a representative."
Also running on the Republican side:
- Paul Rish, a Macon businessman and former chairman of the county's Republican party.
- Ken DeLoach of Warner Robins, a private-school assistant principal and part-time pastor.
- Businesswoman Angela Hicks of Macon.
Another reported candidate, Dianne Vann, could not be reached for comment.
Meyers describes herself as a Huntsville, Ala. native, a graduate of the University of South Alabama and the mother of two.
