ALBANY, Ga. (AP) -- Southwest Georgia won't be getting a new interstate anytime soon.
A new study from the Georgia Department of Transportation found the cost of building a new roadway would outweigh the benefits it would provide.
The study found that it was more economically viable to improve access to existing roads in the area.
Matthew Fowler, a GDOT assistant state transportation planning administrator, said Tuesday the state will not recommend a new interstate that focused on a number of proposed corridors in southwest Georgia.
The study included corridors from Columbus to Albany to Valdosta, Columbus to Albany to Tifton and Cordele to Albany to Tallahassee, Florida.
