We've got rhythm, soul and rock & roll...plus a whole lot of theatre. Welcome to the weekend, Central Georgia!
Before the show gets sold out, we wanted to let you know about an incredible concert taking place NEXT Thursday at the Cox Capitol Theatre. T-Bird and the Breaks - an 11-piece band straight out of Austin, Texas - were one of the hit performances of Bragg Jam's Summer Music Festival. According to one of Bragg Jam's organizers, Jessica Walden, the band has been voted Austin's best band several times and has headlined the South By Southwest (SXSW) music festival. Of their performance at Bragg Jam she says, "You know, nobody had ever heard of them in Macon. They had never played outside of Austin until the night of Bragg Jam. They brought the house down at the Cox Capitol Theatre." Don't miss the magic of this soul-revue band whose music, Walden claims, "...you can't help but dance to." Tickets are on sale now, but you'd better hurry! This one's going to go fast. Visit www.coxcapitoltheatre.com or call (478) 257-6391 to purchase those tickets. Now for this weekend... Friday night, the Hummingbird in downtown Macon presents a huge rock show. Jack Oblivian and the Tennessee Tearjerkers along with John Paul Keith and the 145's perform live at 10:00 p.m. These Memphis boys are gonna rock your socks off! Check out the Hummingbird's myspace page at www.myspace.com/thebirdstage for information on upcoming shows. Central Georgia is also abuzz with theatrical offerings! This is the last weekend to catch Theatre Macon's production of the musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. The theatre's Youth Actors Company (YAC) perform the play Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. For reservations call (478) 746-9485. If you're feeling a little bah-humbug-ish and your Christmas spirit needs a jolt, Warner Robins Little Theatre has a remedy for you! How about a dose of Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol. Catch this hilarious, moving holiday play Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Call (478) 929-4579 to make reservations. Friday evening, travel back to Christmas Eve 1934 as the Back Door Theatre at Mercer University presents The Lucky Spot. Catch all the drama from Pigeon, Louisiana this Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Call (478) 301-2974 for tickets and reservations. Last on the agenda, we're taking you back to next week for the Macon State College Company of Players' production of Balm in Gilead. According to actor Paul Roadarmel the play, "...takes place in a seedy New York diner in the 60's. This is a diner frequented by the dregs of humanity, if you will." The play's utilization of overlapping dialogue and audience interaction keeps you on your toes. And with the wide assortment of interesting characters - there's never a dull moment! Get wrapped up in the drama next Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at the Arts Complex Theatre at Macon State College. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free. Whether you enjoy music, theatre, musical theatre, even theatrical music...this weekend's for you! Check out Ben's preview of all things entertainment in the video to the right...
