SANFORD, N.C. (AP) -- A 5-year-old North Carolina girl has been remembered at two vigils after she was found dead.
The body of Shaniya Davis was found yesterday off a dirt road in Sanford.
Her father, Bradley Lockhart, was supported by friends during a vigil last night in a store parking lot 40 miles from where his daughter was discovered.
A second memorial was held at a Baptist church in Sanford.
The girl's mother, Antoinette Davis, entered no plea during a brief court appearance yesterday. She's charged with human trafficking and felony child abuse. Police say her daughter was offered for prostitution.
Police in Fayetteville have also charged Mario McNeill with kidnapping after he was spotted on a hotel surveillance video carrying the girl. Authorities say McNeill has admitted taking the girl, although his attorney says McNeill will pleaded not guilty.
