DECATUR, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say a man who had a brief standoff with Decatur police is being held in connection with a killing in Athens.

Decatur Police Chief Mike Booker says officers were summoned to a home Thursday morning by someone who lived there but who had gotten out and told them an armed man was inside.

Booker says a DeKalb County SWAT team was called in and several streets were blocked off, but the man came out and surrendered.

The chief says the man, identified as 30-year-old William Joseph Studstill, will be turned over to Athens-Clarke County police on a murder warrant. Officers were searching for him in the death of his wife, 33-year-old Stephanie Ann Studstill, who was found stabbed Thursday morning in her Athens home.
