SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- Georgia death row inmate Troy Anthony Davis' relatives, as well as family of the Savannah police officer he was convicted of killing, are planning vigils before the case returns to federal court.

Supporters of Davis have scheduled a church vigil Tuesday evening, the night before a federal judge hears evidence that Davis' attorneys say shows he's innocent of the 1989 slaying of police officer Mark MacPhail.

MacPhail's family also planned a gathering Tuesday near
Savannah's police headquarters.

The U.S. Supreme Court last summer ordered a hearing on Davis' innocence claim. Davis was sentenced to die in 1991 for shooting MacPhail to death as the off-duty officer rushed to the aid of a homeless man who was being attacked.
