Macon police office say one man was arrested after holding several people hostage for about four hours this morning.

Police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet says officers were called around 2:20 a.m. to the scene on 4306 Marion Ave. That's in south Macon between Broadway and Mead Road.

A call to E911 said a man had barricaded himself into the house.

The police used a throw phone to communicate with the suspect, 21-year-old Corted Tharpe. Gaudet says Tharpe was at first 'aggressive and confrontational" but then shut down and stopped communicating.

She says police then went inside and around 7 a.m. safely got the hostages out of the house.

"Unbelievable job by the SWAT team," Gaudet says.  "They took two young women, two young men and a one-year-old child out of the house."

Gaudet says officers arrested Corted Tharpe shortly after 7 a.m.
