Terminal Station's centennial birthday cake revealed

Terminal Station's centennial cake almost done

BYRON, GA.- - After more than a week of designing, mixing, and baking, the cake for the Terminal Station's 100th birthday is nearly complete.

Lisa Shelpley, the owner of Lisa Mae Cakes in Byron, is putting the final touches on the cake replica, like the shrubs and windows. Shepley says this project was about more than just fondant and modeling chocolate to her. She says she had a personal connection to Terminal Station growing up.

"It was very special because my dad worked for the railroad, and as a child, I would go to the Terminal Station and upstairs to his office. Maybe someone like me that has memories of it, it will be extra special. Just the fact that a cake can be made into something that is actually a structure,” explains Shepley.

Shepley has also designed cakes for special occasions and birthdays. Her daughter also got in on the family trade. She owns Slice Custom Cakes in Milledgeville.

The centennial celebration for the Terminal Station will be tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
