'The children she taught felt it in their hearts:' Husband on teacher's death

#LoveLikeCherylOgle movement starts in Gray

If you live in Gray, you may have seen this message trending around the city this week -- #LoveLikeCherylOgle.

The movement began after Cheryl Ogle unexpectedly passed away last week. She was a teacher in the community for 20 years, and her family wants to make sure her loving legacy lives on.

"She loved everybody," says her son, Parker Ogle. "That's where the hashtag came from."

The message could be found all over Gray this week -- at the grocery store, the bank, even the local Dairy Queen.

"There was never a day that our family didn't know how much she loved and cared for us," says Trey Ogle, Cheryl's husband.

A kindergarten teacher at Gray Elementary for 20 years, Cheryl's friends and family say there was simply no one else like her.

"The children she taught could feel [the love] in their hearts," says Trey.

Trey says she had compassion for every student that passed through her classroom, often crouching down on her hands and knees to be on their same "tiny" level.

"If someone was not a hugger, she taught them how to hug," says Parker.

Cheryl was also involved with an organization at Gray Elementary called "Guardian Angels," a group that helps students who are in need.

As an advocate of children's literacy, Cheryl added her own touch to the program.

"Any time any child ever had a loss or a tragedy, Cheryl would always go to the bookstore and purchase a book on her own and give the child a copy and then also place a copy in the library," says Trey.

So now as her family suffers through their own loss, they're asking people to "Love Like Cheryl" and donate books to Gray Elementary School so her legacy can live on.

"If we could spread that message, that through love all things are possible, I think the world would be a better place," says Trey.

If you would like to donate money or books to Gray Elementary School in memory of Cheryl Ogle, you can drop them off, or mail them, to 365 Hwy 18 East Gray, GA 31032.
