The Rainbow House is seeking your donations on GA Gives Day

GA Gives Day: Rainbow House in Houston Co.

Tuesday is Georgia Gives Day and dozens of nonprofits across the state want your donations, including many here in Central Georgia.

The Rainbow House in Houston County is participating for the third year and they say their programs run solely on donations.

"When a child comes to Rainbow House, we are making sure that they are working hard to make them feel confident and they feel safe being here," said advocacy director Linita Berryman.

The nonprofit children's advocacy resource center is dedicated to helping kids who have been abused.

"Children we see here have primarily been sexually abused," said Berryman.

For more than 30 years, The Rainbow House has relied on grants, fundraising, and support from the community to operate.

"If we lose a grant, we lose a program and we would not want that to happen," said chairwoman Kathy O'neal.

So on Tuesday, they are participating in Georgia Gives day for the third year.

"We just want you to know that any amount you give to the Rainbow House would be appreciated," said O'neal.

O'neal says donating just $15 provides one hour of advocacy services for a child and their family, $65 provides one hour of therapy for a child, and $300 provides parents with a parenting class.

"People don't like to relate to child abuse, people don't want to talk about it, it's something that we want to hide," said O'neal.

That's why The Rainbow House offers prevention programs, counseling and parent support, because O'neal says "there's no excuse for child abuse."

"Our children are our future and child abuse is not something we want to talk about, but it's so prevalent and we just have got to make sure that we take care of our children," says O'neal.

O'neal says they hope to raise $5,000 on Georgia Gives Day.
