Three sent to hospital as train hits vehicle in Houston County

A train was moving slowly Thursday in Houston County after it collided with a car.

Three people were sent to a local hospital for observation after a train and car collided near Kathleen,

It happened around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 247 and West Houston Drive.

Capt. Ronnie Harlowe of the Houston County Sheriff's Office says Randy Houser of Newark, N.J. turned from 247 to West Houston Drive, where it crosses the Norfolk Southern tracks.

That's where Houser's 2000 Honda Accord collided with the train.

Harlowe said nobody seemed to be seriously injured, but the people in the car were taken to a local hospital to be checked out.

He said Houser's car suffered heavy damage.

Harlowe said the driver has not been cited and the accident remains under investigation.
