Twiggs commissioner defends himself against GBI investigation

Commissioner Bryant: "I have nothing to hide"

Twiggs County Commissioner Tommie Lee Bryant defended himself against a GBI investigation during Tuesday’s meeting.

Some county tax officials say Bryant took a property tax break that he wasn't entitled to, then tried to transfer it to his son's home.

Bryant brought a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs dated August 26.

He says it confirms that he's eligible to take a tax break for disabled veterans, but Bryant denies he tried to pass his tax break to his son's property.

“I went over there to the tax commissioner’s office and asked could it be done and they said they had to do it over there in their office,” said Bryant. “When Mr. Ashby came to me I said I don't know what you’re talking about. I told him what I did, that's what I did. I don't have to lie about nothing that I did.”

This case is under investigation by the GBI.
