Two killed in Highway 96 car accident

Two people are dead after an accident involving a semi-truck on Highway 96.

A release from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office says the 911 center received a call about an accident with injuries on Highway 96 and Hampton Meadows Drive around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

In their initial investigation, they found 31-year-old William Countryman, of Bonaire, was turning off Hampton Meadows Drive onto the highway in his Honda Civic.

Tyler Sapp, of Millbrook, Ala., was driving eastbound on the highway in a 2003 Peterbilt semi-truck.

The release says Sapp collided with the Civic, and Countryman died at the scene.

25-year-old Amanda Jo Parker, of Bonaire, was a passenger in the Civic and she later died at the hospital.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is investigating the accident.
