Runners hit the trail for United in Pink's annual Flamingo Fest

United in Pink Flamingo Fest

The cold weather didn't stop hundreds of participants Saturday from running in United in Pink's held its 4th Annual Flamingo Fest.

The main event was a 5K run in honor and in memory of breast cancer survivors. Runners hit the trail on the campus of Wesleyan College in Macon.

United in Pink Marketing Director Elaine Hardison explains what separates United In Pink from other organizations.

"When someone in your family gets breast cancer, it affects the entire family," said Hardison. "We are the only organization in the region that does that kind of program. There are organizations that raise money for research and those that raise money for free mammograms or screenings. We're a different branch of that tree -- we do services and programs for the family and their survivor."

The money raised from this year's Flamingo Fest will be donated to breast cancer patients, survivors, and their families.
