UPDATE: New information released about crash that killed Crisp deputy's wife

Woman killed in wrong-way crash on I-75

(UPDATE 6:30 p.m.) Sgt. Craig Smith at the Georgia State Patrol Post in Perry says GSP responded to a traffic crash Saturday morning around mile marker 127, near the Dooly-Houston County line.

He says their initial investigation shows that a 2013 Chrysler 200 – driven by 26-year-old Donn Kelvin Smith, of Rentz -- was going north in the southbound lanes on I-75S.

He says Smith collided head-on with a 2016 Nissan Versa driven by Marci Thompson, of Cordele.

The collision caused Thompson’s car to flip and smash into the guardrail of the emergency lane before catching fire.

Smith was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where his condition is unknown.

Thompson was airlifted to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta where she died early Sunday morning.

The crash is still under investigation.
