War Days sets up camp in Jones County

War Days sets up camp in Jones Co.

Jones County is taking a step back in time this weekend.

Old Clinton is reenacting the Battles of Sunshine Church and Griswoldville that took place in 1864.

It's all for War Days -- an annual weekend event that takes place in Gray put on by the Old Clinton Historical Society.

Tents are set up like camps were back in the war times, reenactors are in full costume, the McCarthy-Pope House is open for tour, and ladies of the Confederacy have houses furnished and decorated in the era of the War Between the States.

President of the historical Society, Earlene Hamilton, says War Days is a chance for people to see what life was like back during those times

"It's a living history program. It gives people the opportunity to come to a town that was started in 1808 and to see what went on in 1864 when the War between the States was going on, to see what happened to a small rural community,” said Hamilton.

War Days will continue Sunday starting at 9 a.m. and will end at 4 p.m.

Admission is $5 dollars for adults, $3 dollars for kids ages 6-18, and free for kids 5 and under.
